Radical Muslims, Environmentalists, and the Green Jihad

Posted By Mark Musser On April 25, 2011 @ 3:45 pm In AIM Column | Comments Disabled

(A Special Report from the AIM Center for Investigative Journalism)

Rep. Keith Ellison, the Muslim Congressman from Minnesota who shed tears in protest over the congressional hearings on the growing radicalization of Muslims in the U.S., wrote the foreword to a book entitled Green Deen: What Islam Teaches about Protecting the Planet [1]. In Arabic, “deen” means religious creed. The author of Green Deen is Ibrahim Abdul Matin. He wrote his book to demonstrate that there is a close relationship between Islam and modern environmentalism.

It turns out Ellison would have been a good witness to how Muslims are being radicalized as foot solders not only for global Jihad but for a “green” future. It is an unholy alliance that threatens our future but which escapes the attention of media predisposed to believe that radical Muslims working with environmentalists could only produce positive results.

What is fascinating is that Matin works in New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s environmental planning department as a policy advisor for New York City’s long term sustainability, and was one of the Muslims promoting the idea that the new mosque being considered near Ground Zero should be a green one [2]. In fact, Matin devotes one whole chapter of his book to “Green Mosques” and provides a list of environmentally friendly practices that can and should be implemented at each local mosque. Being the progressive Muslim that he paints himself to be, Keith Ellison was very impressed with Matin’s abilities and proudly decided to endorse his book.

One of the reasons Ellison decided to work with Matin was because of his own growing personal involvement in the green movement, which surprisingly enough, is becoming more popular among Muslims. In an interview posted on the DC [3] Green Muslim’s website [4], Ellison commented that “my involvement in politics is really rooted in my desire to try to promote unity among people, trying to promote unity with the Earth and creation, and trying to promote justice.” Ellison is also involved in an organization called the “Environmental Justice Advocates of Minnesota (EJAM [5]).” Ellison, the first Muslim Congressman in U.S. history, thus believes in green Islamic social justice of sorts—a veritable Islamic political ecology.

Ellison first met Matin in 2008 at a Muslim American seminar caucus in Washington, D.C.  Matin was a fellow of “Green For All [6],” the very organization founded by communist Van Jones [7] to help promote the financial wonders of the so-called Green Economy [8]. Matin also helped organize Green For All’s National Day of Action [9] calling for “Green Jobs Now,” which more than 50,000 people attended. Ellison was very impressed by Matin’s influence at the caucus: “Ibrahim made an important connection that day—that the faith community needs to be involved in the green movement.” He went on to conclude his foreword by saying that “Green Deen brings faith communities into the environmental movement by changing the conversation from the facts of global warming to the fact that we all live and work here together and have a collective responsibility to keep this place clean and safe for everyone.”

While there is certainly no small controversy over exactly what a caliphate [10] may be, especially with regard to how Sunnis and Shia [11]s view it, or how closely it may be tied to the ushering in of Sharia law [12]Islamic totalitarianism [13]terrorism [14] and violence [15], it is a word that shows up often in Matin’s Green Deen. Matin innocuously translates the word “caliphah” to simply mean “steward,” a very environmentally-correct term. While this may satisfy the environmental consciousness of modern Western elites, this definition is, of course, very far removed from how most of the Muslim world have historically understood this word.

However, no matter how green a Muslim may or may not be, by definition, the caliphate must still be an Islamic theocratic state under the dominion of Allah. Even though Matin maintains [16] that he wrote his book to help rebrand Muslims from being considered terrorists to environmentalists, he still prefaces his entire book with the idea that “the earth is a mosque.”  This means that the environmental holism being espoused by Matin must necessarily be subject to Allah’s totalitarian authority over the earth. In other words, environmental holism and Islamic totalitarianism go hand in hand in Matin’s Green Deen.

Secret Conquest

If the entire earth is a mosque, as Matin maintains, then Allah’s boundaries are boundless, and this means that simultaneously Americans must live under the theocratic dictates of Allah, and environmentalism can easily be used alongside Sharia law to help bring America to its knees under Islamic jihadist control. While many on the left would naively consider such a possibility beyond the pale, something along these lines is exactly what the Muslim Brotherhood [17] has in mind for the future of America. Indeed, in 1991, the radical Muslim Brotherhood espoused [18] that “the process of settlement…in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and sabotaging its miserable house by their hands and by the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.” In other words, something like environmentalism can be easily used as a jihadist tool in the hands of a green Muslim to help sabotage America from within. After all, Matin says that “Muslims have a personal connection to the color green,” and that “the favorite color of the Prophet Muhammad was green.”

More troubling is that Keith Ellison’s pilgrimage [19] to Mecca in 2008 was paid for by the Muslim American Society of Minnesota, which is just another name [20]for the Muslim Brotherhood. Ellison also likes to attend Hamas rallies [21], and has even worked with communist front groups [22] like the National Lawyers Guild [23]. He even once went so far as to praise [24] the terrorist record of Bernardine Dohrn—the wife of the infamous Bill Ayers. After converting from Roman Catholicism to Islam, Ellison also praised [25] the likes of Louis Farrakhan [26] and the Nation of Islam [27] during his college days. This hot-wiring of the anti-Semitic Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam, together with environmentalism, only helps to serve up an explosive eco-fascist concoction not seen since the 1930’s [28].

With such a cadre of characters and organizations under Ellison’s belt, is it any wonder that suspicions should arise over his activities, even over something as allegedly harmless as environmentalism? Which brings us back to Matin. Why in the world would Matin want Ellison’s endorsement if all he wants to do is try and show Americans that Muslims are not terrorists but are becoming progressive environmentalists? Neither should it be overlooked that the Muslim American Society also touts [29] the Green Deen book. Matin even considers Malcom X, who was also one of his heroes as a child when he used to listen to his tapes, to be a green Muslim [30]. Such disconcerting connections betray the image that Matin’s Green Deen is as benign as it reads.

Indeed, Matin’s whole approach to energy is viewed as a green Muslim apocalyptic dichotomy between heaven and hell. Matin considers gas, coal and oil as energy from hell, i.e., from the ground: “it is dirty, and it is a major cause of pollution and climate change. Energy from hell is non-renewable; it takes away from the Earth without giving back. It disturbs the balance of the universe and is therefore a great injustice.” As such, it appears that energy from hell needs to be placed under the caliphate control of Allah to help bring about a green Muslim social ethic on the earth: “one way we can stand out firmly for justice is by ending our reliance on oil and coal. Energies from hell are particularly devastating and unjust to people and the planet.”

From One Hell to Another

With the likes of the OPEC oil cartel largely run by the Middle East, coupled with the environmental restrictions on the homefront, perhaps the earth indeed is becoming one giant mosque. Worse is that Matin’s Green Deen only promises to become more hellish, leaving America increasingly exposed to the harsh natural elements of the sun, storm and wind. Yet, Matin views such exposure as a gift from heaven. For him, solar and wind power are Allah’s answers to America’s energy problems: “energy from heaven comes from above. It is not extracted from the Earth and it is renewable…energy from above is a gift from heaven.” The problem now, however, is that America’s electrical grid is not ‘smart [31]’ enough yet to incorporate Allah’s heavenly gifts into her energy system.

Matin also proudly notes in his book that the EPA received much needed help from a green Muslim by the name of Dr. Aziz Saddiqi. In the 1960’s Saddiqi was a young doctoral candidate who was doing groundbreaking research in the Houston area on chemical engineering. The University of Houston was so impressed with his work that he was offered a job: “Soon he found himself guiding the development of curriculum that would help the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency carry out its new mission of enforcing the Clean Air Act.” His chemical engineering expertise was much needed at the beginning to help the EPA get off of its feet: “In 1973 the EPA was only three years old and did not understand the full breadth of its power.” The EPA thus had a lot of growing up to do, and Dr. Saddiqi was at the heart of it all at the very beginning: “The EPA, its scientists, and its partner agencies needed to be trained on how to monitor pollution from smokestacks and other commonly used industrial practices.”

In fact, it seems that they were all on the learning curve together on this, as Dr. Saddiqui “had to learn how to explain his research in chemical engineering to this group of regulators.” Dr. Saddiqi “also authored the training materials used to teach EPA scientists how to sample ambient air and develop pollution controls.” Today, Dr. Saddiqi is in charge of the largest Islamic community in the United States, called the Islamic Society [32] of Greater Houston.

It is certainly comforting to discover that the EPA had a green Muslim helping them all out at the beginning on how to be good regulators. Environmentalism and the Islamic caliphate working together arm in arm at the very foundations of the EPA?  Green hippies and a green Muslim expert working hard together trying to come to grips with the full regulatory power of the Clean Air Act?

Conflict of Civilizations

However innocent some green Muslims and environmentalists may or may not be in this whole ecological experiment that America is increasingly rushing headlong into, ratcheting up secular problems with apocalyptic concerns and solutions will only feed radicalism and religious fervor. It also draws in the naïve and unsuspecting to do things that they would not normally do. By apocalypticizing their worries and concerns [33], environmentalists have managed to take something as banal and neutral as handling natural resources and have turned it into a gigantic worldwide ethic of ecological social justice requiring immediate action that now is even beginning to draw [34] in the Muslims as well.

Muslims like Ibrahim Abdul Matin and Keith Ellison would do well to think again about the differences between Gaia [35], considered the spirit of the earth by environmentalists, and Allah. Though both have totalitarian [36] goals, they are by no means the same. Ecological pantheism [37] cannot be mixed with monotheism [38], even if the Muslim religion is symbolized by a crescent moon. At some point, these two ideologies will collide, and even though I am not a betting man, I would put my money on the growing juggernaut of Western pantheism. It has already largely devoured the Judeo-Christian worldview in America, and is well on its way to spitting out the pieces of what is left of free market capitalism.

AL GORE BAILS FROM GREEN-ENERGY INVESTMENT

But climate-change prophet’s company still touts profits of ‘alternative’ market

Published: 6 hours ago

If you are thinking about green energy for your portfolio, Al Gore has a few words of advice: “Don’t do it.”

“Of course he does not say that in public,” says Bill Gunderson, president of Gunderson Capital Management. “Gore’s company still talks about how alternative energy is a good investment. How companies are adopting it, governments are subsidizing it and people are using it.”

But SEC filings from Gore’s company, Generation Investment, tell a different story, says Gunderson, who hosts a nationally syndicated financial talk radio program and writes for MarketWatch and TheStreet.com.

“Generation Investment says it is all about climate change, but it is just a typical investment fund with typical stocks,” Gunderson said.

“It has Amazon, Colgate Palmolive, eBay, Nielsen, Qualcomm, Strayer University and a smattering of stocks from biotech and health care. Not one company that makes solar panels, or windmills or biogas or electric cars. Catheters and commercial real estate, yes. Solar panels, no.”

Which is good, because the so-called clean tech sector has been a terrible investment for at least two years, Gunderson said.

A veteran meteorologist exposes the global warming scam in “Climategate.” Get it at WND’s Superstore!

First Solar, America’s largest maker of solar panels, was one of the few pure climate-change stocks Generation Investment had in its portfolio. And it was a disaster.

In the summer of 2010, Generation Investment bought about 440,000 shares of First Solar, worth almost $65 million

Gore bought near the peak.

As the price of First Solar plunged from $141 in 2010 to $30 in the first quarter of 2012, Gore’s company kept throwing good money after bad, buying more and more stock until its investment in early 2012 totaled about 1.12 million shares worth about $28 million dollars.

Generation Investment sold it soon after, SEC records show.

Generation Investment also has private investments and investments in other alternative energy companies that it is not required to disclose to the SEC.

Among the companies listed in the “private and confidential client update” from Generation Investment are SMA Solar, the largest solar company in Germany. Its value has gone down 57 percent over the last year.

In China, Generation Investment said it had an investment in the world’s largest solar panel manufacturer, SunTech. The stock has gone down 82 percent over the last year.

Also in the portfolio are EcoSynthetix, Landi Renzo and Meyer Burger, which have lost 60 percent, 25 percent and 49.6 percent respectively over the last year

In Gunderson’s newsletter and on his radio shows, he told his listeners and clients to “sell everything under the sun” and he was shorting First Solar at $121 in May 2011. Gunderson repeated this to the Toronto Globe in December 2011.

“I don’t blame Gore for getting out of alternative energy,” Gunderson said, “even if he did it too late in the case of First Solar.

“But when is he going to tell people that alternative energy is a lousy investment?”

One of Generation Investment’s larger clients is the New York public employees pension fund. It has received $30 million in fees since 2009, said the New York Post. Gore also invests for the California teachers public employee union pension fund.

Neither Gore, Generation Investment or the New York public employees pension fund would discuss the details of their purchases.

“Everyone in alternative energy knows their goose is cooked because subsidies are going down, and so is the price of oil and natural gas if we are allowed to drill for it here,” Gunderson said. ‘”But if you want to have energy in your portfolio, there are plenty of American stocks producing traditional energy that are doing just fine.”

THE GREEN ENERGY FRAUD

By Michael S. Coffman

NewsWithViews.com

Just like Obamacare, President Obama is committed to force us into using green energy regardless of what the people want – or can afford. Although U.S. reserves of oil, natural gas and coal are inexpensive and very abundant, Obama has done all he can to shut down every plan to develop these sources of economically cheap energy.

Obama even defied a court order requiring the Department of Interior grant deep water drilling permits for oil. Meanwhile, Cuba contracted several companies, including China, to conduct exploratory drilling within 60 miles of the Florida coast; something Obama would not let U.S. companies do. By the end of 2011, Cuba had brought in a Chinese deep water drilling rig and started drilling some 60-70 miles from Florida.

The EPA is also refusing to grant new permits to open new coal mines and has gone so far as to revoke existing permits. Once again, the federal court ruled against the efforts of the Obama administration, in this case the EPA, charging that the EPA exceeded its authority under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act.

One of Obama’s most recent actions was to deny the permit to build the XL oil pipeline from Canada down to Texas. The pipeline would have delivered 1.2 million barrels of oil a day; the amount of oil the U.S. currently gets from Saudi Arabia, and 46 percent more than all the wind and solar energy currently produced in the U.S. each day. This has led energy-sector executives to suspect the administration “is at war with American energy.”

While Obama gives lip service to reducing the dependence of the U.S. on foreign energy and create jobs, he is actually making America more dependent on foreign energy, reducing the U.S.’s national security, while killing hundreds of thousands of jobs in the process. It borders on the bizarre, yet the mainstream media are strangely quiet about this threat while promoting the president’s jobs program which even some Democrats in the U.S. Senate voted down.

After spending tens of billions of dollars on subsidies to green energy wind and solar farms Obama’s Clean Energy Program, the nation’s dependence on green energy has barely budged, from about 1.5 percent 10 years ago to 2 percent today. Worse, in his new book, Throw Them All Out, Peter Schweizer details how 80 percent of DOE funds for clean energy have gone to Obama backers:

…In the…government-backed-loan program [alone], for example, $16.4 billion of the $20.5 billion in loans granted as of Sept. 15 [2011] went to companies either run by or primarily owned by Obama financial backers—individuals who were bundlers, members of Obama’s National Finance Committee, or large donors to the Democratic Party.

This is beyond cronyism, its raw corruption that calls into question whether Obama is pushing green energy because he believes in it, or to pay off his supporters with taxpayer’s money. Solyndra is a case in point. Solyndra was Obama’s poster child for his “clean energy initiative.” The dirty details of the Solyndra scandal trickled out over months, in spite of the administrations herculean effort to bury the information.

One of the details exposed was that a DOE employee monitoring the Solyndra loan guarantee, Steve Spinner, happened to be one of Obama’s top fundraisers. Another major Obama fundraiser, George Keiser, had deep ties to Solyndra. His George Keiser Family Foundation’s investment arm, Argonaut Ventures, owned a huge piece of Solyndra and received direct political support from the Whitehouse and money from the federal government. Argonaut’s President, Steve Mitchell, also served on Solyndra’s board of directors.

As the scheduled groundbreaking for Solyndra approached, a series of emails from the Whitehouse showed the administration put intense pressure on the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to make a decision immediately on the Solyndra loan. The Whitehouse never said what the OMB’s decision should be, but wanted Vice President Bidden to attend the groundbreaking ceremony as a photo op and time was running out. However, the OMB said the Whitehouse deadline did not give them time to do their due diligence. If they had, perhaps the OMB would have said “no.”

Worse, as it became clear Solyndra would fail, the DOE allowed private creditors, including many big donors to the Democrats, to get paid first when Solyndra’s assets were sold, in violation of the law. The investors got some of their money back, the U.S. taxpayer got none. Then, as layoffs became inevitable, the Energy Department asked Solyndra to delay the announcement until after the 2010 election.[1]

Besides the cloud of corruption, the Solyndra scandal shows why the government shouldn’t be in the business of picking winners and losers. Not only is wind and solar power economically ruinous, it just doesn’t work. Simply put, wind energy only works when the wind blows, about 25 percent of the time. Likewise, solar power is even less effective because it doesn’t work when the sun doesn’t shine or it’s cloudy. There are a host of other technical reasons why wind and solar won’t economically competitive with carbon-based energy on a large scale for a long time into the future.[2] Yet, the Obama administration is spending billions of dollars to force us to use green energy because of a proven failed ideology.

Europe is already reeling from the realization green energy is bankrupting them. Great Britain estimated last summer that 25 percent of their population already suffers from “energy poverty” as British energy costs skyrocketed by 71 percent. British companies are threatening to move to other countries. Some are already moving.

The European evidence means nothing to Obama. His clean energy plan is an utter failure that has cost the American people tens of billions of dollars, killed hundreds of thousands of jobs, and opened the door to what appears to be rampant corruption. Yet, the Obama administration and the progressives in Congress continue to force-feed us its failed policy. It’s time to say goodbye to any elected official who blindly accepts Obama’s failed clean energy policies. An in-depth study in Spain found that for every job green energy creates, 2.2 are lost in the rest of the economy as the enormous subsidies required for green energy sucks jobs out of the private sector. Research in Italy found that they lost an incredible 6.9 jobs in the industrial sector and 4.8 jobs across the entire economy for every green job created. As European nation after European nation realizes the enormous costs of alternative energy, they are shutting off their astronomic subsidies to prop up green energy. Green energy is in a death spiral in Europe.

PLANNING COMMISSIONS, SMART GROWTH AND LAND USE
PART 2

By Kelleigh Nelson
September 24, 2012
NewsWithViews.com

“The inherent vice of Capitalism is the unequal sharing of its blessings; the inherent vice of Socialism is the equal sharing of its miseries.” –Winston Churchill

“The issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite.” –Thomas Jefferson

While most Americans go about their busy lives and focus on being entertained by an endless stream of college football games and new fall programs on TV, our freedoms and rights are disappearing at an exponential rate. As I described in Part 1 of this article, we have a two-pronged attack on our property rights.

Rosa Koire, author of Behind the Green Mask describes one prong, “What Smart Growth is and what United Nations Agenda 21 Sustainable Development does is instates Communitarian Law, which says that the individual’s rights are subsumed by or balanced with the rights of the “community.” Those rights are not delineated, they’re not written, and they can change at any time, or even be taken away. What we’re being told is that this is for our own good, and for the good of the community. It’s a stealth plan, people don’t know about it. In fact, when you’re invited to come down and give your opinion on what that new plan is (like our Plan ET) for the remaking of your city center, it’s a Delphi Technique meeting where you’re being tricked, or manipulated into thinking your point of view is actually desired by your city or county. In fact, the plan has a pre-determined outcome. The plan was already completed before you even came in the room. All that’s needed is so-called community buy in, because they want to be able to say the community vetted it, looked at it, approved it, and this is your plan.”

The second prong also includes the city or county planning commission which institutes changes in codes and zoning, annexes property into areas to be “protected,” and works to facilitate plans which restrict development of land such as Conservation Trusts. If the city or county is a member of ICLEI, then it is very easy for the planning commission to have approval from the city council or county commission members.

Many will deny that our property rights are under attack regardless of the proof surrounding us in our local city and county governments. The planning commissions in every town in America have similar projects as our Smart Growth Hillside/Ridgetop Protection Plan. This plan effectively stops a great percentage of development, which is one of the core features of UN Agenda 21. The people will be herded into the high rise stack-em and pack-em’s in the city and the undeveloped rural and suburban lands will be turned over to the dinosaurs once again.

Knoxville’s Smart Growth Hillside/Ridgetop Protection Plan

The creation of this so-called plan was made possible through a grant from: The Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Division of Forestry and the US Department of Agriculture, Forest Service. The funds come from our tax dollars through “stimulus” monies from the federal government. This plan was adopted by the Knoxville-Knox County Metropolitan Planning Commission on December 9, 2010. It is nothing more than a restriction on development in both the City and County of Knoxville.

As I explained in Part 1, when Bill Haslam was Mayor of the City of Knoxville, he hired his former Democratic opponent, environmental extremist, Madeline Rogero, as Director of Community Development. While in this position, she applied for the Smart Growth federal grant from Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The grant gave the City of Knoxville $4.3 million and another $2.5 million came from non-profits. The City of Knoxville is now a member of ICLEI (International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives). The ICLEI name has been changed to Local Governments for Sustainability. Madeline Rogero is now mayor of the City of Knoxville, and as such, she is a strong proponent of Smart Growth’s Plan ET and the Hillside/Ridgetop Protection Plan.

The HS/RT Plan was also adopted by the county, but with an amendment making this plan “advisory.” The amendment was added by Commissioner Briggs and passed by a vote of 8 to 3. Unfortunately, the MPC doesn’t wish to abide by the amendment. They are actually choosing to fully ignore it.Here is a summary of the plan.

In 2007, a 30-member Task Force was formed by then City Councilman, Joe Hultquist and County Commissioner Tony Norman, who happens to be my Commissioner. They allegedly brought together developers, conservationists, neighborhood activists, engineers, and others with a vested interest in land use and property rights. After two years of meetings and public hearings—some of them famously contentious—the task force produced a 76-page report. It recommended new standards for what can be built on hillsides and ridge tops, and how the building should be done.

As I mentioned in Part 1, the Smoky Mountain area is very hilly. The plan proposed a Hillside and Ridge top Protection Area made up of property across the county of at least five acres in size and a grade of 15 percent or greater. (It would also include flatter property on ridge tops.) But the National Green average grade is 22 percent or greater, yet the Task Force has gone even lower! Here are the progressive maps showing the evolution of the HS/RT Protection Plan and affected land. The first map is a 40% slope on ridge tops only, the second is a map showing a 30% or greater slope, and the third map shows a 15% or greater slope. For an area like ours, this plan almost totally restricts development in the County. Also check out the maps on the website of the Hillside/Ridgetop Protection Plan!

How Much Land is Affected

To show how much land (acreage) the County of Knoxville would be unable to develop, here is the Vacant Land Analysis of Knox County, Tennessee according to the Knox County Property Assessor in 2011 and the Knoxville-Knox County MPC in 2012:

Location              Total Land Area            Vacant Land
————————————————————
Knoxville                      66,669                                  9,334
Farragut                       10,380                                  3,138
County*                        259,534                               142,626
———                              ———
County Total                336,582                               155,098

*(excluding Knoxville and Farragut)

Starting at a 15 degree slope, the restrictions are as follows:

15%-25% Slope: 2 units per acre
25%-40% Slope: 1 unit per 2 acres
40%-50% Slope: 1 unit per 4 acres
50% Slope: No development

Then check this link for the percentage of vacant land inside and outside HS/RT.

The City has a very small portion of undeveloped land, (approximately seven percent) as does Farragut, but the County would really be hindered. Approximately 60 percent of the land in the County is undeveloped property, and with restrictions on 15% or greater slope, this would affect nearly all of the undeveloped property. It also decreases the value of the property for the owners.

Our County Mayor, Tim Burchett, is against the plan. Here’s what he said,“The HS/RT Protection Plan lays the foundation for bad public policy, and it is my hope that Knox County Commission votes to reject it. It is in fact a roadmap for the significant erosion of the rights of thousands of Knox County property owners. In this difficult economy, government should not put in place new bureaucratic roadblocks that further restrict economic development. From both a philosophical and practical standpoint, I oppose this plan. In addition, few property owners know the exact slope of every hill on their property. The Metropolitan Planning Commission, however, has the full list of affected property owners, and I believe it is their responsibility to directly notify these Knox County taxpayers about this plan. On February 8, I sent a letter to MPC encouraging them to do just that. Unfortunately, they chose to ignore this advice. Citizens deserve a legitimate opportunity to voice their opinions of this plan.

“If Commission approves this plan Monday, tens of thousands of taxpayers will wake up Tuesday not knowing whether their property is affected. I hope this does not happen.” [Link]

This is, of course, part of UN Agenda 21′s Smart Growth plan.

The Goal is Control

Under “goals” in the Growth Plan on the MPC website, is this statement,“Encourage a pattern of compact and contiguous development to be guided into urban areas and planned growth areas.” That, my friends, is Smart Growth!

Here’s a nasty little caveat to all this development restriction. If a planned hillside subdivision sets aside some of its higher ground as “shared community green space,” the developers could have a higher density of construction in the lower parts of the project than would otherwise be allowed. Also, if developers give land as “conservation easements,” they have a greater opportunity of getting their development plans approved. Isn’t that special, just a little blackmail for the land! This conservation and environmental crap they feed us is just that! This is all about money and control.

The same thing is going on in Memphis, Tennessee. Our Governor, through his bagmen in the Senate and House tried to codify their illegal activities of bypassing the Clean Water Act and the State of Tennessee water laws. The Norfolk Southern intermodal rail yard development will net the Governor’s family $25 to $40 Million a year in diesel sales, but all kinds of conservation laws were broken. [Link]

With MPC’s ability of rezoning, undeveloped private property in the HS/RT protection area can be restricted from development as a protected area accessible to the public for future use as greenway extensions or trails. The property owner, however, is responsible for upkeep, cannot sell the property, and must still pay the taxes.

As you can see, the two-pronged effort of Plan ET and HS/RT Protection Plan effectively destroys our God-given and Constitutionally protected private property rights.

First Approved Zoning Under HS/RT Protection Plan

Remember, the City of Knoxville has approved and fully passed the HS/RT Protection Plan. Here is what has recently happened to privately owned land annexed by the City.

From an MPC News Release on June 26, 2012:

On June 12, 2012, the Knoxville City Council utilized recommendations of the HS/RT plan in approving the rezoning of more than 110 acres in northeast Knoxville. Property owned by Babelay Farm, LLC, was recentlyannexed into the City of Knoxville and rezoned from the General Residential zoning it had while outside the city to a Planned Residential zone district in the city.
The property is the site of the Legends at Oak Grove, a 264-unit apartment complex. The zoning approved by City Council allows up to 510 additional dwelling units on the remaining 93 acres of undeveloped land on the property.

The approval of a Planned Residential zone district for this property is consistent with the recommendations of the HS/RT Protection Plan, allowing the clustering of dwelling units on to the flatter portions of the site to protect the RT and steeper, more forested slopes. The rezoning requires approval by the MPC of a development plan for any future building. Remember, the MPC is an appointed, unelected group of people, with a decidedly Communitarian stance.

More than 30 acres of the undeveloped property are located within the HS/RT Protection Area and contiguous to Knox County’s New Harvest Park. Based on recommendations of the HS/RT Plan, two conditions were attached to the rezoning: at the time of development plan approval, this protection area must remain undisturbed, and, the property owners must make the protected area accessible to the public for future uses such as trails or greenway extensions.

Do you understand this? The City of Knoxville under this communist “eminent domain on steroids” HS/RT plan, took 30 acres of the Babelay Farm and the owner of the property has no recourse.

MPC Total Control

On August 27, 2012, at the Knoxville County Commission meeting, there was an important vote. The vote included two items from MPC that would codify HS/RT Plan into hard law.

The County Commission voted down the HS/RT plan, not once, but twice. When they finally approved the plan, it was approved with an amendment that made the plan “advisory” only. It was approved only after a Delphi Technique facilitator was brought in and paid for by a private individual in order to bring the Commission members to consensus agreeing with this HS/RT Plan.

The MPC used an interpretation of T.C.A. 13-3-403 to put the HS/RT Plan into law knowing that this statute has no appeal process to County Commission or Knox County Courts! T.C.A. 13-3-403 says “the regional planning commission shall adopt regulations governing the subdivision of land within its jurisdiction.” There is no mention in T.C.A. 13-3-403 that the elected body of County Commissioners must approve MPC’s subdivision regulations. It also doesn’t mention allowing an appeal to any local court.

This means, this MPC unelected body would have sole discretion on the HS/RT Plan without approval of the elected County Commission members or appeal to the Knox County Courts. This is an obvious and outrageous violation of citizens rights to due process! This is United Nations Agenda 21.

The resulting decision of the Commission was to table this discussion and vote until it could be taken up in the January session of the State of Tennessee legislature.

Several local state representatives sent letters to the Commission requesting a tabling of the vote, as they’d received countless complaints from concerned property owners. So now we wait.

Conclusions

Here is an excellent website showing which federal department has taken land from each state. If you find your state, click on the “Print PDF Map.” It will enlarge the map for you to see just how much land in your state is now federally owned land and by which federal department. As an example, 85% of Nevada’s land is federally owned, 50% of Idaho’s land, and 37% of Colorado’s land. Here is the map of who owns the West!

The U.S. federal government owns and manages more than one-fourth of the nation’s acreage. In fact, more than half of the West is federally owned. Yet, the acts that enabled states to be a part of the nation promised transfer of public domain title. The citizenry of each state owns the land, not the centralized federal government.

Federal land management is not the panacea it is sometimes perceived to be. Federal lands reduce the tax revenues available to states. The government does not pay property taxes. The more land the state or the federal government lays claim to, the less taxes available for local and federal infrastructure. The citizenry will be heavily taxed to make up for the losses. This is another avenue to move the populace into urban areas and out of suburbia and rural communities.

Sadly, there are only a handful of educated folks trying to protect the rights of us all. The apathy will be our death knell. I beg of you, get off your backsides, get on your knees and pray to the Almighty for guidance and help, and then get with people in your community who are fighting this rotten United Nations Communitarian takeover and destruction of our freedoms. You can meet them at the city and county meetings, at the town halls. Find them, get educated, and get busy. Unless we take action, we are most certainly doomed.Where is the outrage? Where are the citizens at every Commission and Council meeting watching over what these elected and unelected officials are doing? Where is the citizenry at the state legislature watching what our representatives are passing?

Voters Abandon Global Warming Fears

Posted By Alan Caruba On September 7, 2012 @ 6:28 pm In Guest Columns | Comments Disabled

Former President Jimmy Carter will address the Democratic Party convention via a televised address, but former Vice President Al Gore and candidate for President will be no where in sight.

The leading advocate for global warning will be conspicuous in his absence, but that doesn’t mean that the greatest hoax of modern times will not be mentioned. It has been a consistent theme of the Obama administration, particularly to justify the Environmental Protection Agency’s efforts to attack the energy and business sectors of the nation’s economy.

As this is being written, the morning of the start of the Democratic Party convention, one wonders if the tired, thoroughly debunked claims that carbon dioxide (CO2) is causing a warming that does not exist and that humans are also causing it will be mentioned.

On the night that Obama had won his primary victory over Hillary Clinton’s bid to be the party’s presidential candidate, among his promises and claims, he said, “This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.” You cannot get more absurd than that. It would translate into the administration’s push for cap-and-trade legislation (regarding CO2 emissions) that was rejected by a Democrat-controlled Senate.

Obama’s claim did not go unnoticed by Mitt Romney who, during his acceptance speech, said, “President Obama promised to slow the rise of the oceans and to heal the planet. My promise is to help you and your family.” The global warming hustlers were apoplectic in their denunciations of Romney, but his promise received a standing ovation.

The administration has become famous for the billions wasted on so-called green jobs, green energy, and controlling greenhouse gases. It is essential to understand that CO2 has never caused any of the warming cycles the Earth has been through over 4.5 billion years. It shows up after climate cycle change occurs. Moreover, the oceans that cover 71% of the Earth surface both stores and releases CO2.

Prior to Earth Day in 2011, a Gallup poll revealed just how Americans felt about various environmental issues. Asked about a variety of concerns, the respondents rated global warming dead last with 48% saying they were either not much or not at all concerned about it.

The decades of apocalyptic claims and warnings have given way to reality. There have been no massive famines, no complete melting of the north or south poles, no increase in natural phenomenon such as hurricanes, no mass extinctions of various species. By 1998, the planet began a new cooling cycle, one that panicked the perpetrators of the global warming myth.

In 2009, the leak of emails between the researchers whose deliberately false “data” was the basis for global warming claims revealed that the cabal behind the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports were plotting to suppress the truth. The leak would become known as “Climategate.”

Just prior to the Democratic Party convention, President Obama issued yet another Executive Order, this one calling for “investment”, i.e., more spending, on cogeneration plants in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by deploying “cleaner and more efficient energy production in the country by working around political resistance to climate change and ‘green’ energy legislation on Capitol Hill.”

In reality, you cannot “save” energy. You can only use less of it and the Obama administration has done everything in its power to ensure that there will be less by deterring the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline from Canada-estimated to generate 20,000 new jobs-and by waging a war on coal. Coal mines and coal-fired plants are being closed. Oil continues to be discovered in the U.S. but not on federally controlled lands, nor can it be explored and extracted offshore where billions of barrels exist.

In effect, the Obama administration has been the most anti-energy administration in recent times while, at the same time, wasting billions on solar energy companies that have gone bankrupt and on wind power which, combined, represent less than 3% of the electricity generated nationwide and which would not exist were they were not, like ethanol, completely dependent on government mandates and subsidies.

It will be interesting to see how many of the convention speakers make any reference to global warming, carbon dioxide, or the real sources of energy, coal, oil, natural gas, and nuclear power.

Throwing a bone to the environmentalists, it is likely that President Obama will make a passing reference to global warming and energy, but it is not likely that the “planet will begin to heal” as it grows colder in a completely natural cooling cycle that threatens to tip over into a new ice age.

There are real problems to be addressed, high unemployment, a lagging “recovery,” a fiscal crisis that will occur on January 1st unless Congress acts to extend tax cuts and puts off a massive sequestration of funding to defense and other sectors. In the end, it is likely we will be told that the last four years were all George W. Bush’s fault.

Radical Muslims, Environmentalists, and the Green Jihad

Posted By Mark Musser On April 25, 2011 @ 3:45 pm In AIM Column |

Though both havetotalitarian [36] goals, they are by no means the same.

It happened to the Romans. It happened to the American Indians. It happened to the Incas of South America. It happened to the aborigines of Australia. It happened to South Africans. It’s happening to Great Britain, Norway, Sweden, Holland, Belgium, France and Spain.

It is happening to the United States of America.

What is “it”?

All those ancient civilizations experienced migration of other civilizations so great in numbers that “it” changed their languages, religions, cultures and ways of life.

The Romans lost their empire. The American Indians lost everything and found themselves stuck on internment camps better known as “reservations.” Today, they cope with alcohol, domestic violence, poverty and purposelessness. The Spaniard Pizarro, using his guns, degraded the Inca nation into oblivion. The Australian aboriginals, like the American Indians, lost their continent to the British invasion. The same happened with South Africa.

Today, Great Britain, by its own hand, watches itself change from “British” to Middle Eastern Islamic right before its eyes. The same goes for Norway, Sweden, Holland, Belgium, France, Canada, Australia and Spain.

While academics and social elites call it “multiculturalism and diversity”, such numbers of humanity racing into first world countries—flood host countries with incompatible cultures, religions and sheer numbers.

But today, another aspect of mass migration percolates to the surface, but nobody wants to talk about it much less deal with it. Top leaders of every country avoid addressing it at all costs. Average citizens don’t know it exists much less understand its growing ramifications.

For example, Great Britain today, already crowded beyond sustainability, houses 61 million people on its tiny islands with a sum total landmass smaller than the State of Oregon. Nonetheless, they continue importing people that will add a projected 11 million additions within two decades. No one will whisper a word about it and no one knows when the additions will stop or if Britain will choose to or be able to stop them. Since the third world adds 80 million people annually, there is no end of the line for the numbers of desperate humanity.

Great Britain provides a 21st century rendition of Easter Island’s legendary population debacle back in the 1800s.

Holland provides another rendition in that it houses 18 million people in a tiny landmass about 90 miles wide by 180 miles long. They must import everything into their country in order to feed, warm, house and transport themselves. They cannot sustain 18 million people on such a tiny landmass without total dependence on the outside world.

Today, China, adding 8.1 million net gain annually, buys farmland in Africa and South America in order to feed its projected addition of 300 million by 2050—a scant 38 years.

Can America withstand the coming transformation of itself?

In the past 40 years, America endured immigration that added 100 million people by October of 2008 to the lower 48 states. This country, at present rates of mass migration, will add another 100 million people by 2035. We will add another 38 million on top of that by 2050. Total: 438 million from our current 315 million. (Sources: PEW Hispanic Center, “US Population Projections” Fogel/Martin, US Census Bureau)

On July 11, 2012, ABC’s anchor Diane Sawyer reported on New York adding two to five million more residents in the coming decades. She said that 300 square foot apartments would be the norm of the future. A 300 square foot apartment equals the size of two car parking spaces. Is this the kind of transformation we want as individuals and communities? Do we want to repeat Rome’s path? Great Britain’s? China’s? India’s? Mexico’s?

How will adding another 100 million people within 38 years help our water, energy, resources, standard of living and quality of life?

If allowed to proceed, this transformation will affect every aspect of our freedom, quality of life, environment and the planet itself. None of it positive!

“Unlimited population growth cannot be sustained; you cannot sustain growth in the rates of consumption of resources. No species can overrun the carrying capacity of a finite land mass. This Law cannot be repealed and is not negotiable.” Dr. Albert Bartlett, www.albartlett.org, University of Colorado, USA.

Because if you don’t, this is what your children face in an overwhelmed and overpopulated United States of America:This is not the time to complain or whine. You must engage your congress-critters. Go into their offices. Tell them what you want. This is a Republic and it is up to you to take action by voting the bad ones out and/or running for office yourself. The two top organizations for taking action and making impact are www.NumbersUSA.org and www.CapsWeb.org. Become a phone caller and faxer of pre written letters. It’s up to you.

In a five minute astoundingly simple yet brilliant video, “Immigration, Poverty, and Gum Balls”, Roy Beck, director of www.numbersusa.ORG, graphically illustrates the impact of endless immigration. Take five minutes to see for yourself:

Whenever a man has cast a longing eye on office, a rottenness begins in his conduct. -Thomas Jefferson

Tennessee Passes Resolution Against Agenda 21-Governor Refuses to Sign

Tennessee House Joint Resolution 587 (HJR 587) denounced “the destructive and insidious nature of UN Agenda 21.” It was passed by Republican legislators over Democratic complaints that it buys into a conspiracy theory. The Resolution was approved, 72-23 in the House and by a 19-11 vote in the Senate. This is a non-binding position statement by the General Assembly, not a law that is implemented. Our Republican Governor, Bill Haslam, allegedly a “conservative Christian,” refused to sign the Resolution. [Link] It is the first Resolution he has refused to sign since he took office in 2010.

When Haslam was Mayor of the City of Knoxville, he hired his former opponent, environmental extremist, Madeline Rogero, as Director of Community Development. While in this position, she applied for the Smart Growth federal grant from Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The grant gave the City of Knoxville $4.3 million and another $2.5 million came from non-profits. The City of Knoxville is now a member of ICLEI(International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives). The ICLEI name has been changed to Local Governments for Sustainability. We are now fighting “Smart Growth,” thanks to our Governor and the new Mayor of the City of Knoxville, Madeline Rogero. [Link]

Why did the Governor refuse to sign a non-binding Resolution? Perhaps the rest of this story will explain the Governor’s stance. Also remember, Governor Haslam’s family owns Pilot Oil/Flying J. Bear with me while I explain the technical details as clearly as possible so one can understand the full ramifications of the corruption with these alphabet soup environmental groups, the developer of a Waste Water Treatment Plant, an intermodal railroad facility, the legislators of Tennessee, and our Governor, Bill Haslam. This is a huge story with a large number of interwoven players. Then we’ll get to the core of this rotten mess which exists in the State of Tennessee and probably in every other State in the Union.

The Bottom Line – Woody Degan for State Senate, District 32

Woody Degan is running for Tennessee State Senate Seat, District 32. In supporting Woody Degan, you’ll not only be helping the citizens of Tennessee, but those of the entire United States to save our private property and water rights. After you read this story, please send a donation to help Woody fight the battle for all of us and to unseat the incumbent, Mark Norris, who is certainly not representing the rights of the Citizens of Tennessee.

This story has UN Agenda 21 and state control of our water and personal property rights written all over it. All water in the state of Tennessee belongs to the citizens. A bunch of good-old-boy politicians, environmental groups, and land developers have colluded to change the law where all water in Tennessee would be controlled by the State. The land of the Wolf River Airport has been owned by the Degan family for two generations. The airport property is threatened because of the developer of a Waste Water Treatment Plant for the City of Piperton and an intermodal rail yard being developed by Norfolk Southern Railroad. The developer bypassed applying for and receiving proper permits, bypassed state environmental laws, and failed to abide by the federal Clean Water Act.

Key to Alphabet Soup Environmental Groups

TDEC – Tennessee Department of Environmental Conservation
TWRA – Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency
TWRF – Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation
TSMP – Tennessee Stream Mitigation Program
AMEC – American Engineering Consulting (Ireland owned)
TDOT – Tennessee Department of Transportation
WWTP – Waste Water Treatment Plant
CWA – Clean Water Act
WRC – Wolf River Conservancy

Tennessee Water Rights

Tennessee Water Law, (T.C.A. 69-3-102 (a) (b), states, “waters of the state are held in trust for the citizens..”). So, the citizens of Tennessee own the rivers, the lakes, the streams, the aquifers, the channels, the spillways, every drop…yes, all of Tennessee’s water. We own it. That’s what the law states. So why then is the state selling our streams and our water rights for $200 per linear square foot through the Tennessee Stream Mitigation Program(TSMP) “In Lieu Fee” program? The Federal Clean Water Act (CWA) requires “No Net Loss” regarding mitigation issues. Easy enough. Whatever natural resources are damaged due to development, that same amount MUST be replaced (mitigated). Thus, the “No Net Loss” standard. An “In Lieu Fee” is substituted for the “No Net Loss” requirement in the CWA, when the stated requirement cannot be met, or would be quite difficult to satisfy.

In other words, if you pay a fee “In Lieu Of” repairing the stream you are damaging with the development, the Tennessee Stream Mitigation Foundation is supposed to use those funds to recreate a similar water way to replace the one which was lost. This means, “No Net Loss.” According to the Tennessee Stream Mitigation Program (TSMP) they have made great strides to provide mitigation to offset stream impacts permitted through §404/401 of the federal Clean Water Act. These “Mitigation measures” are supposed to include:

1. Restoration of degraded stream reaches and/or “riparian zones”; (those areas that surround water bodies in the watershed and are composed of moist to saturated soils, water-loving plant species and their associated ecosystems)
2. New (relocated) stream channels;
3. Removal of pollutants from and hydrologic buffering of storm water runoff; and
4. Any other measures which have a reasonable likelihood of increasing the resource value of a state water.

In layman’s terms, this is saying it is supposed to be nearly impossible for a developer to destroy a stream. However, the law is set up to where the developer is to try to build around the stream first. If that doesn’t work, they’re supposed to engineer and find a newly approved path to direct the stream with minimal damage. Lastly…and here’s the caveat, if that doesn’t work, the developer writes a check and destroys the stream. In other words, any developer can simply buy the stream through “In-Lieu-Fee” rather than fixing or mitigating the problem he’s made, and therefore, destroy the stream for development purposes. The check is supposed to go to repairing a stream somewhere else, but once it is written, the company is off the hook. They have no responsibility in terms of correcting the stream or mitigating any downstream damage to other property owners, as in the case of the Wolf River Airport.

The money goes to the TSMP and they are supposed to either repair the damaged stream or find another stream that is in need of repair within close proximity to this development and use the monies for same. Every foot of stream damaged is to be replaced with a foot of stream. This is “NO NET LOSS” required by the Clean Water Act. The Tennessee Stream Mitigation Program began in 2002 and so far $56 million has gone into the program so developers could do what they want with a stream.

What is happening in Tennessee is, rather than doing “No Net Loss,” they’re paying this “In Lieu Fee.” The TSMP is just taking a fee rather than doing all of the work they’re supposed to do according to the Federal Rules of Mitigation and the Federal Clean Water Act. When wetland mitigation, which is legal, came down to the states in the 2002 Memorandum of Understanding from the Federal Government, it was mandated that it be under the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, (TWRA). The Agency was to establish a Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation (TWRF) and this foundation is to administer the mitigation program.

In addition, developers can purchase “mitigation credits” which are basically an acre a piece, and cost $40,000. These credits are not readily available to the smaller developers who couldn’t afford three or four acre purchases of these credits. However for the big developers, the price is not outrageous. In the case of Wolf River Airport, there are two streams upstream from the airport that both come down and converge on the airport property. They are about a mile to a mile and a half away. With the curvature of the streams, or the natural bends of the streams, each is about three miles of stream.

Norfolk-Southern and William Adair bought 4900 ft., and in another case, 3600 ft. of stream and paid money into a bank account for causing damage and tearing up those streams. Rather than mitigate properly and consider downstream use, or downstream impacts, as called for under the Federal Rules of Mitigation, the TSMP just put the money in an account. The key here in Tennessee is that they took the money and put it into an account that was not consistent with the 2002 agreement they had reached with the federal government under the Clean Water Act when Mitigation came to this state. What they did was they put that money in a private bank account off the books of the state of Tennessee. That bank account currently has $13 Million in it, and has had over $56 million run through it. The TSMP takes the money, the land, and the water through the Mitigation Banks. The non-profits, for-profits, and other third party organizations run the Mitigation Banks. The Corps of Engineers is doing their books (reports) and filings in order to keep it off of the books of the state, bypassing the CLEAN WATER ACT. This is against both state and federal law.

They couldn’t have it on the books because IN LIEU FEE is not in the regulations or the law and doesn’t meet the federal mitigation requirements of NO NET LOSS. All of this is to get around the federal CLEAN WATER ACT, and Tennessee’s own water laws. This is an illegal process of taking money and putting it into an off-the-books bank account and nobody knows what they’re doing with it. TSMP even put $5.4 million into Fannie Mae–outside of state fiscal oversight–and they’re totally unregulated!

There’s no cap on how much nature these developers can tear up. In the Wolf River Airport case, the developers bought 4600 ft. of one stream and 3600 feet of another. However, there are three miles of each stream, and they’re tearing up the entire two streams all the way to the Wolf river.

Mitigation is supposed to rectify any downstream impacts, but as you’ll see in this story, it is simply not happening. Codifying (to reconcile the law and incorporate it into the law) the “In Lieu Fee” and “No Net Loss,” is the official stated goal of mitigation.

In fact, an amendment was even removed from SB2211 in the House that would have made downstream impacts a more significant issue. We’ll get to SB2211 and HR2349 later in this tome.

In Part 2, we’ll discuss the Cast of Characters.

Earth Summit Babble

Why anyone still believes anything the UN Environmental Program and its Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has to say is one of those great imponderable questions. To prepare you for the flood of totally idiotic predictions to which you will be treated during the June 20-21 Earth Summit, here are just a few and I strongly advise you to ignore all of them.

A 550-page preparatory UN report, put together by “600 experts”, the Global Environmental Outlook-intended to soften up global suckers-predicts that Earth’s environmental systems are nearly at “their biophysical limits” thus subjecting the Earth to “irreversible and possibly cataclysmic world changes” and “If humanity does not urgently change its ways” it is doomed.

Notably, the Earth Summit will abandon “global warming” and “climate change” as its main theme and instead focus on “sustainability”, the utterly bogus notion that humans are using up all of the Earth’s resources.

The people most famous for really bad predictions these days are environmentalists. Rachel Carson kicked it off fifty years ago with her book, “Silent Spring”, assuring everyone that all the birds would fall dead out of the sky because of pesticide use. These days they are more likely to be chopped to shreds by wind turbines.

Ever since the early days of environmental hysteria just about every awful scenario cooked up in the fevered brains of the Greens has become front page news. There is method to their madness and it comes down to a simple equation: Scaring People Equals Money and Power.

Environmentalism is all about controlling you while picking your pocket. By any other name it is Socialism or its big brother Communism. It depends on lies backed up by a massive propaganda machine, funded by ultra-wealthy foundations, by governments who support Green programs of all sorts, and by the members of an endless succession of environmental organizations.

For example, you may recall that global warming, a massive heating of the Earth due to carbon dioxide and other “greenhouse gas emissions” was predicted to occur twenty, thirty or fifty years hence when the hoax kicked off in the late 1980s. Keep that in mind when the Rio+20 United Nations Earth Summit is held in Rio de Janeiro, the site of the first conference.

Supported by the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the so-called “scientists” backed up their claims with all manner of computer models, dubious graphs, and tons of “scientific” papers to convince governments and people that massive changes had to occur-primarily a huge reduction in the use of fossil fuels-or we were all doomed.

Exposed in November 2009 by the “Climategate” release of thousands of emails between the perpetrators, I still find it astonishing that not one single member of this conspiracy has gone to jail. Indeed, in 2007 the IPCC and Al Gore shared a Nobel Peace Prize.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change has issued a formal request that all the “researchers” who contributed to the global warming hoax be granted immunity from prosecution. Unbelievable, eh?

Back in 1956, a geologist named M. King Hubbert released the findings of his calculations to let the world know that U.S. oil production would “peak” between 1965 and 1970. It didn’t. What has since slowed oil production in the U.S. has been the refusal of the Obama administration to issue the permits necessary to drill on federal lands and offshore. The world is afloat on an ocean of oil and, in addition, the U.S. is not running out of coal or natural gas.

Similarly, all the population predictions made by Prof. Paul R. Erhlich and his wife in 1968 have proven false as well. A colleague of his, Dr. John Holdren, is the science advisor to the President. One of the central themes of environmentalism is that humanity is to blame for harming the Earth and that there are too many people.

The other theme is that all these people are “consuming” too much of the Earth’s natural resources and should be penned up in cities and kept out of most places on Earth in order to protect its “endangered species”, etc. Meanwhile, as this is being written, huge sections of western states’ forests are going up in flames thanks to Mother Nature setting off fires off with lightning strikes.

Does it surprise anyone that the Earth Summit is calling for a “climate fund” and wants nations to kick in $100 billion? The proposal for the fund called “The Earth We Want” covers an extraordinary range of topics that includes gender equality, woman’s empowerment, and all the usual social justice and environmental clap-trap that is intended to ensnare everyone in a web of laws, regulations, and treaties aimed directly at eliminating the freedoms the West has and that many in other parts of the world want.

There is one good reason to not ignore the Earth Summit. They are telling you just what kind of an Orwellian and totalitarian world they have in mind for you.

An online “Room for Debate” segment posted on the New York Times website June 21 posed a left-leaning question to a symposium of six left-leaning outside experts: “Should Air-Conditioning Go Global, or Be Rationed Away? [1]” While it may have been acceptable for New Yorkers to beat the heat with air conditioning, when developing countries like India strives for the same comfort, it becomes an environmental concern to privileged liberals. The Times asked from its air-conditioned headquarters in Midtown Manhattan:

Temperatures in New York City have pushed toward 100 degrees this week, and air-conditioners strained the power grid (thanks in part to stores with their doors open). Meanwhile the demand for coolant gases, especially in rapidly developing countries like India, threatens to accelerate global warming.

Is it a good goal for everyone in the world to have access to air-conditioning — like clean water or the Internet? Or is it an unsustainable luxury, which air-conditioned societies should be giving up or rationing?

The debate was keyed to a 2,000-word piece that same day by environmental reporter Elisabeth Rosenthal, “Relief in Every Window, but Global Worry Too[2].”

In the ramshackle apartment blocks and sooty concrete homes that line the dusty roads of urban India, there is a new status symbol on proud display. An air-conditioner has become a sign of middle-class status in developing nations, a must-have dowry item.

It is cheaper than a car, and arguably more life-changing in steamy regions, where cooling can make it easier for a child to study or a worker to sleep.

But as air-conditioners sprout from windows and storefronts across the world, scientists are becoming increasingly alarmed about the impact of the gases on which they run. All are potent agents of global warming.

….

So the therapy to cure one global environmental disaster is now seeding another. “There is precious little time to do something, to act,” said Stephen O. Andersen, the co-chairman of the treaty’s technical and economic advisory panel.

Rosenthal also contributed a personal dose of liberal guilt to the paper’s Green blog, “My Air-Conditioner Envy [3],” complaining that she can’t buy a more environmentally correct model and so chooses to forgo repairing her old evil one. (A confession that calls Rosenthal’s journalistic objectivity on the matter into question.)

With scorching heat enveloping New York City this week, I’m suffering from air-conditioner envy. I want a model like the one I saw in April at the Terre Policy Center in Pune, India. But I can’t buy it.

As Andrew W. Lehren and I report in The Times, the warming effects of air-conditioning gases are reaching crisis proportions as more and more people in countries like India and China buy the appliances. (Some readers have rightly pointed out that people in industrialized countries depend far more heavily on air-conditioning.)

At least she’s not a hypocrite; Rosenthal is willing to (metaphorically) don Jimmy Carter’s cardigan sweater, and suffer in the heat to save the planet.

Which is why I can’t bear to replace the old air-conditioner in my living room, even though it is on the fritz and not cooling much these days. Having reported on the coolant issue, I am reluctant to invest in a model containing any of the coolant gases commercially available in the United States. I’d prefer to wait until a machine with a climate-friendly coolant is available. And I know there are many options in development.

In August 2011 [4], Rosenthal called on China and India to turn off their air conditioners to save the planet, writing “As more people in more countries come to rely on air-conditioning, the idea of thermal comfort may need to be rethought to curb the growth in greenhouse gas emissions.”
